Free South Carolina 511 Tools

The South Carolina 511 system is your key to knowing what is on the road before you go.

There are three free tools to give you the latest roadway and traffic information directly from your South Carolina Department of Transportation (SCDOT): the 511 telephone system, the new and enhanced South Carolina 511 website and the two new 511 South Carolina smartphone applications:

  1. 511 Telephone

The 511 telephone service is an interactive, voice-activated Roadway and traffic information system you can access by calling 511 from your home, office, or cell phone.

To be safe, do not use a hand-held cell phone while driving. Instead, use a hands-free accessory so you can keep both hands on the wheel.

Or better yet, call before you go or when you are stopped during your trip.

  2. 511 Website

The site map, at 511sc.org, is powered by Google Maps, with 511 information placed in layers on top of it. Simply use the map as you would any Google map and click on the icons for more information.

The website also contains realtime traffic information, as well as a precipitation overlay, and live camera snapshots.

  3. 511 Smartphone Application

SCDOT is introducing 511 smartphone applications to meet the growing trend of information on mobile devices. The applications work on phones and tablets that operate on the iPhone and Android platforms, the two most popular smartphone types.

These applications will tell you what incidents and construction will be on your predetermined route. You can also see traffic cameras. Do not use these applications while you are driving.
